Acreage, Florida: It’s been 15 years since Acreage resident Dorothy Gay was shot to death at her home in Sycamore Lane, but it wasn’t until Thursday that police arrested the man accused in her slaying. In October 1997, authorities say Gay’s husband, Thermon “Tim” Gay, 60, shot his wife of 10 years. However, although Thermon Gay was arrested at the time, it was only on a domestic violence warrant. Dayton Man Indicted for Murdering Girlfriend’s Son
Dayton, OH: The Montgomery County Prosecutor’s Office said Friday that a grand jury has indicted a Dayton man accused of shooting his girlfriend and killing her son Nov. 21. Brian Holloman, 45, was indicted on one count of murder, two counts of felonious assault with a deadly weapon and one count apiece for having weapons under disability, discharge of a firearm on or near a prohibited premises and disrupting public services. Mason County, WA: Three people are in custody today on suspicion of first-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder in the Nov. 21 shooting of Barbara Giles, a Shelton-area woman who was shot when she answered her door. According to Dean Byrd, Chief Deputy of the Mason County Sheriff’s Department: the arrested are Giles' former 37-year-old male live-in partner, his 16-year-old daughter and the daughter’s 18-year-old boyfriend, who shot Giles. The father of the two sisters attacked in a midafternoon rampage on Myrtle Avenue assailed Anderson. The evidence is alarming. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than 35 percent of American women are raped, assaulted, or stalked at some point in their lives. Nearly one third of U.S. women say they are “fearful” of their partner. Intimate partner violence (IPV) affects women throughout their lives, not only increasing their risk of bodily injury, but also putting them at increased risk for gastrointestinal disorders, chronic pain, gynecological problems, hypertension, and depression. Intimate partner violence also massively increases healthcare costs in the long run. Despite the staggering statistics, there are no national guidelines in place for physicians who may attempt to offer support or services to abused patients as part of their treatment.
